What is domain name?
First of all welcome to www.krazypost.com. this is my new blog and completely dedicated on blogging.
Before starting on blogging topics, I would like to share “What is domain name?”
A domain name is a unique name for a web site, like www.krazypost.com on the internet.
The complete domain name has 3 section for it:
- krazypost (unique name)
- com (TLD)
www stands for world wide web , so the domain name can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
The unique name can be anything which is available and describes your business or identity online
The name can be 63 characters long at max.
com – This is TLD which stands for Top Level Domain.
There are multiple TLD like .com / .net / .org and some country specific as well , will share about it later.
Combination of unique name and TLD makes the domain name unique.
In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) like 220.127.116.11 resource, such as a personal computer used to access over the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site or blog, or any other service which are access over the internet.
The IP address like 18.104.22.168 which represent a computer is difficult to remember and access. Suppose you have your banking a/c with HDFCbank.
To access your a/c online if your were asked to remember such big numbers, then people would have never opted for Internet banking.
So to make it easy domain name are available which represent a brand and easy to remember and access any particular website or application.
Domain names must be registered with multiple registrar available in the market. When domain names are registered with you, they are added to a pool of domain name registrar. along with the IP address and is stored on a DNS server.
What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name System. A DNS server is responsible for mapping a domain name to defined IP address..
So the domain name system (DNS) then´translates´the
domain name you(user) entered into your browser into the correct IP address and you don’t worry about remembering the IP address at all’.
