WordCamp Pune 2013 Spotlight Day 2

Hope you enjoyed WordCamp Pune 2013 Spotlight Day 1, now we go ahead and have a look at Day 2.

Day 2 started with each attendee describing about themselves before the session.

Speaker #1: Arun Prabhudesai

He covered the topic of “WordPress Use Cases: It can do everything!”. I really admired this session and he was one such speaker whom I had little knowledge about him by following his blog www.trak.in It was great to see him speak. He highlighted some important stats about WP and its uses round the globe. He explained very well that anything is possible with wordpress and you will surely get one plugin for your requirement. He inspired to be very active in WP community and to be very much updated.

He explained the use of “Headway Framework” theme.

To end the session, he queried to name 3 things which can’t be done in WP (not at enterprise level but at consumer level), one thing did come up was something related to matching profile images in search.

Speaker #2: Ronak Thakkar

His session was on “Leveraging your business with WordPress”. This was simple stuff which can be done using wordpress. Few queries were also cleared by other speakers as well. He explained me to use Jetpack as one plugin for having better use for blog for mobile devices(I will try this soon).

Speaker #3: Rohit Srivastwa

This session was ultimate and related to “How to secure your WordPress yourself” , the session explained the pros and cons of having managed and un-managed hosting, things by which sites get hacked, which plugin to have within our blog, “mod_security” a module to have with apache.

Always maintain a backup of your code and also database, things you should do if your blog is hacked.

If your site is hacked, then

  1. Install a fresh WP copy
  2. Install Plugins
  3. Install themes
  4. Then restore database

And at each point verify your blog/site is it getting infected again.

Some more points to take care

  • Keep your folder de-listed
  • Have two step authentication

Speaker #4: Nishtha Dixit

She is not a blogger/developer but she highlighted the point which every blogger wish for. The topic was “Becoming a cyber celeb using WordPress”, every one wish to become big one day. She highlighted the famous faces in blogging world and gave 4 simple steps to get success.

4 Simple Step

  1. Have an Idea
  2. Create a blog
  3. Promote the blog
  4. Remember Content is King

Speaker #5: Sumit Gupta

He explained the topic “Gamifying your Blog” – don’t worry you would not be creating games from WP but game in WP. He explained how you can have engaging readers to play on your site increase your blog readability. He took a small game with 3 volunteers (Alexander, Rahul Banker, Rahul Jadhav)

He asked 3 question and each one had to give an answer for the same and depending on the collection of point winner would be selected and would be given surprise gift

First Prize: Rahul Jadhav (HP pen drive and TShirt)
Second Prize: Rahul Banker (TShirt)

This was fun and everyone enjoyed a lot.

Speaker #5: Annkur Agarwal

This session was not on any “gyaan” but a story of him which made his career and currently running his own business with WP. He covered the topic “WordPress – Foundation Of A Media Company”were he highlighted some facts about him. This was really motivational session for few.

Speaker #6: Adarsh Thampy

He covered the topic “Why Content Marketing Is Really The Future of Marketing?”, the session in depth covered about “Content Marketing”. How many market players use Content Marketing to move up business, what necessary action needs to be taken for “Content Markting”. This was little heavy dose for me, but really it was worth listening and getting some knowledge.

Update #1: From Saurabh Shukla-This was an awesome event compared to last WordCamp Baroda 2013 and WordCamp Mumbai 2012.
Update #2: Alexander Gounder, is building a community of WP user on wphub.in and requested to be part of it.
Update #3: Some important tips by SEO Baba- Jaidip Parikh on queries about SEO

This ended the session of Day 2 and it was time for “Vote of Thanks”. WordCamp Pune 2013 was awesome.

My Experience: I learned a lot in this 2 day camp/seminar, hope to attend such kind of event in future.
